Greek Consulate gets protest by bike
May be linked to Times Square bomb
By Andrew Garib, Alison Gendar and Dave Goldiner, The New York Daily News Link A bike-riding vandal threw rocks at windows of the Greek Consulate in Manhattan Wednesday in an attack that may be linked to the bombing of a military recruiting center in Times Square, police said.
The vandal spray-painted "Murderer" on the E. 79th St. building and "Alex was here," an apparent reference to Alexandros Grigoropoulos, a teen whose recent killing has ignited violence across Greece.
NYPD cops say the consulate attack could also be connected to politically motivated attacks by cyclists at two consulates and the military recruiting center last March.
Police said a man rode up to the consulate about 4:15 a.m., spray-painted the graffiti on the building and tossed two cobblestones and half of a red brick at basement windows, cracking three of them.
No one was inside, and no one was hurt. The consulate closed for the day as a precaution, said consulate spokeswoman Polyxeni Mastroperrou.
I didn’t do much for this story. We got there well after the place was cleaned up.
