"I’m better than J.Lo," the 22-year-old Bronx dancer Dominique Rosario bragged Saturday, dissing her borough’s favorite daughter. "I can sing." Now she needs to convince the rest of the country. Rosario, with six fellow dancers, hoofed down to Chelsea for a shot at the big time on "Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew." The MTV reality series sought New York-area contestants for its upcoming third season. More than two dozen dance troupes turned out, strutting their synchronized stuff.

Some waited for hours on a cool October morning before the doors opened at 9 a.m., including the members of a troupe called Devastation, who arrived at 2 a.m. "Nobody was here," said Tiffany Hargrette, 26, who traveled up from Trenton, N.J., with her six cohorts. "People left us change because they though we were homeless." A driver in a black Mazda even tossed $5 from the window of his car as the dancers huddled in the darkness. As on "American Idol," viewers pick the winners—no surprise, given the involvement of "Idol" judge Randy Jackson as executive producer on the program. Open auditions have been held in Atlanta, Austin, Miami, St. Louis, Baltimore and San Francisco. The last tryout comes Saturday in Los Angeles. Word on which teams made the cut won’t come for up to a month, show organizers said. Shooting on the program begins in January. Rosario’s group, dubbed Rhythm City, was just as confident as she was. Two members warmed up by dancing on a Dumpster outside the audition space. "We’re going to win," said Alonzo Williams, 26. "If they don’t pick us, I don’t know what they’re looking for." End.
