U.S. says people need financial ed

In an atmosphere of job losses and a souring economy, the U.S. Department of Labor held its annual conference promoting financial literacy yesterday. But one panelist said much of America’s recent economic woes could have been avoided with a little financial know-how.
“We don’t think the whole mortgage crisis would exist if everybody learned financial planning,” Thelma Thompson, the president of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore said yesterday at the conference promoting Wi$eUp, a free financial literacy curriculum.
