School budget cuts turn up the heat at Council

"As a public school graduate, I can’t vote for a budget that doesn’t return money to the classroom," said Council Member Robert Jackson, chair of the education committee. in a rally at City Hall. The members said the Department of Education, which announced the proposed spending changes yesterday, should not cut any funding in light of the city’s budget surplus. David Weprin, chair of the finance committee said the city will have $2.9 billion in additional revenue next year.
